Ramona Concert Series, California
It was so beautiful, I cried …
Well, you were right about Dan Franklin Smith. All the reviews were so true–sensitive player, master pianist. His fingers made the piano notes sing, as Chopin would have liked. I never enjoyed Chopin so much!
There was a piano teacher in the audience that was sort of dragged to the concert, thinking she would be bored. She came to me at intermission, saying, “It was so beautiful, I cried during part of the concert.” Another couple had been touting how great the performance at the San Diego Symphony was the night before. They said the pianist there was wonderful, best they heard. Well, at intermission they came to me specially to say, “We are speechless!! Can’t believe he came to our town to perform for us.” They were expressing their amazement that a pianist that great would even be in our area.
It was such a pleasure working with him, how I wish all the musicians we have had in 25 years were so easy to please. He has such a sweet spirit.
Because of freezing weather and several days of rain, the attendance was down, from 300 to 250, and the auditorium heater didn’t work that night. They all sat there in their jackets enjoying every note!
