Münchner Merkur, Germany 2008

Smith pulls you into the music…he creates a glimmering carpet of sound—unbelievable but true.

Smith pulls you into the music–he always achieves this because he continually surprises the audience. With the Polka de Salon by Louis Moreau Gottschalk, his liberal tempo created unexpectedly drawn-out phrases like strokes of a paw, oddly engaging. When Smith strokes the keys or lets the tone fall as if onto soft pillows, he creates a glimmering carpet of sound–unbelievable but true.
